As lead singer / songwriter for the band Hindu Cowboys, one might easily assume Joseph Marten’s solo sound is akin the distinct country western flavor of his band. Although Marten’s solo performances might lean occasionally toward the retro-country flair, Marten’s wide reach of style and texture in his songs is dynamic beyond the solo acoustic singer / songwriter fair.

Depending on the audience, those who catch Marten’s live show might describe his musical styling as anything from moody retrospect cast with a shadowy baritone to rhythm driven anthems braving the emotional landscape of love and loss. The wide range of diversity Martens is capable of, allows him to always “play the room” regardless of what the audience expects.

Nominated by the Orlando Music Awards for “Best Acoustic Performer” every year since the category was created, Joseph Martens has secured himself as a favorite in Central Florida amongst even the most popular songwriters in the area. This well known respect has flourished in the honor of having shared the stage with the likes of Mark Koselek of Red House Painters, Kevin Kinney of Drivin n Cryin, Jewel, The Gin Blossoms, Peter Case of The Plimsouls and U2 to name a few.

Born in Nashville Tennessee, Joseph Martens comes from a musical family in which both his Mother and brother are singer / songwriters. From the early age of 6, Joseph began to carry the family tradition. To date Joseph has well over 100 original songs.

Currently, Martens plays venues, festivals and private functions throughout Central Florida, nationally and beyond both as a solo and with his band Hindu Cowboys. When he’s not creating and performing music, Martens is broadcasting is own weekly radio show on WTKS Real Radio 104.1 in Central Florida. Having added a live album to his band’s discography and a studio e.p. late 2007, Martens also finds time to work on his sophomore solo album while continuously submitting news songs to his ASCAP publishing company, Karma Ranch Records.
